About Us

Marilyn McEwen was a professional photographer for 27 years, specializing in portraits and weddings. Since being elected to Ucluelet Council in the fall of 2014, and again in the fall of 2018, she ended her photography business to allow enough time to devote to council meetings & duties.

Very involved in the community of Ucluelet during the 24 years of living here, she is currently the Treasurer of the Pacific Rim Whale Festival – www.pacificrimwhalefestival.com, and President/Treasurer of the Pacific Rim Toastmasters group. She also served on the board of directors of the Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce for 20 years – www.uclueletinfo.com .

Lance Blackwell has been a professional mariner for over 35 years, originally teaching scuba diving and running dive charters up the BC coast. After moving to Ucluelet in 1997, he took the RHIOT course (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Ocean Traning) through the Coast Guard, and worked for the Tofino Coast Guard for a while, as well as volunteering for the Ucluelet Auxiliary Coast Guard. He started a whale watching company called Aquamarine Adventures, and was 1/3 owner of Barkley Adventure Station, both of which have since been sold. We spend some our spare time aboard our sailing vessel Oceanus, often visiting Bamfield and exploring Barkley Sound.

Lance has also embarked on a more recent career of documentary filmmaking, see his documentary on the Wild Pacific Trail here in Ucluelet – www.wildpacifictrail.com . His 2010 documentary on fish farming, Silver Harvest, was aired on several TV stations in BC and Washington. He is currently working on a screen play about life in a small coastal village — lots of material to draw from here!

More recently we owned Long Beach TV, a TV channel in Tofino and Ucluelet which ran from 2011 to 2018, when Telus purchased the cable companies in both towns and eliminated all local programming. We applied for a Tourist Radio Station in 2018 and received our license from Industry Canada in 2019, along with permission from DFO to put our antenna on top of Mount Ozzard (the mountain across the bay you can see from all our property photos). We hope to start broadcasting this March (2022); the pandemic caused a 2-year delay in starting this new business.

Here we are after scuba diving off our beach at Anchors Inn.
